Blue Feather Completes Largest Digital Twin Project to Date in U.S. City

Blue Feather is proud to announce the successful completion of our most ambitious and complex digital twin project to date—an immense undertaking covering a dynamic urban environment in the United States. This groundbreaking effort spanned over 435 hectares (4.35 million square meters) and involved more than 11,000 high-resolution aerial images, making it the largest-scale project we have ever delivered.
The project involved extensive flight planning, executed with precision across diverse landscapes—including urban infrastructure, water bodies, elevation changes, and natural terrain. The complexity of the environment required meticulous coordination, from managing restricted airspace to adapting capture strategies around weather and topography.

Massive Data Capture
Using aerial photogrammetry at a ground resolution of 2.79 cm per pixel, we achieved a level of detail capable of supporting real-world analysis and planning. The scale and density of imagery demanded a highly coordinated data acquisition strategy, with multiple sorties and careful overlap calculations to ensure consistent quality and accuracy across zones.

High-Precision Results
Post-processing took nearly seven full days, including the generation of a highly detailed point cloud and orthomosaic. Accuracy metrics confirmed exceptional results:
RMSE Horizontal: 0.85 meters
RMSE Vertical: 0.70 meters
Overall RMSE (3D): ~1.10 meters
This level of precision was achieved despite the project's geographical complexity and environmental variability—an achievement made possible by our advanced workflows and quality control systems.

A Vision in 3D
The final digital twin offers a powerful, navigable 3D model of the city, enabling stakeholders to make data-driven decisions for planning, infrastructure, and environmental monitoring. It’s a testament to Blue Feather’s capability to scale and deliver under pressure while maintaining exceptional accuracy.
This project sets a new benchmark for what’s possible in large-scale urban digital twins, combining immense data volume, complex environments, and high-precision mapping into a seamless, scalable solution.

Why It's an Accurate Project:
Feature | Industry Relevance |
Resolution: 2.79 cm/pixel | Very high detail – great for inspection, modeling, and analysis. |
RMSE Horizontal: 0.85 m | Good positional accuracy for large-scale urban mapping. |
RMSE Vertical: 0.70 m | Solid elevation accuracy, especially for photogrammetry. |
Overall RMSE: ~1.10 m | Strong 3D accuracy across complex environments. |
Over 11,000 images | Massive dataset—supports high overlap and consistency. |
435 hectares | A large, meaningful urban area—major project scale. |
7-day point cloud processing | Suggests dense, detailed reconstruction. |
